Cross country is a unique sport, which attracts runners who often share certain characteristics: they like to run (of course), they like to read, they often are musicians, they are often artists, and they don’t mind being an individual on his/her own.  They also like the cohesiveness of the team that we strive to reach.

     Our HHS crosscountry teams have experienced plenty of success through the years, and I attribute this to the work ethic of our runners.  It takes a strong work ethic to learn to run 3.1 miles or 5K. Last fall our girls became the first state champions in cross country for HHS.

     We have a great area for practice in the dobies right here near HHS.  The courses that we run vary from flat to hilly, from a state park to a golf course. This year we will compete at Confluence Park in Delta, golf courses in Vail and Gypsum, the dobies here at HHS, Connected Lake State Park in Grand Junction, Jumbo Mountain near Paonia, and an open space/equestrian center in Colorado Springs.

     I would challenge you and encourage you to be a part of the HHS cross country team.
